Introducing the Digital for Development (D4D) Hub
The Digital for Development (D4D) Hub is a strategic platform that aims to strengthen digital cooperation between the European Union and its Member States and partner countries in Africa, Asia-Pacific, Latin America and the Caribbean and the EU Eastern Neighborhood. Our joint mission is to promote a human-centric approach to digital transformation. We do so by increasing coordination, facilitating multi-stakeholder dialogues, sharing digital expertise and boosting investments.

Joining forces for a better digital future
We strive for a digital transformation worldwide that is centred around people’s needs and fundamental rights. In the digital era, EU international partnerships accelerate progress towards the Agenda 2030 by closing digital divides, including the gender digital divide, ensuring that no one is left behind.
Our goal is to shape a sustainable digital future with equal opportunities for everyone.
Our work is guided by five principles:
Facilitate partnerships based on local demand and ownership.
Promote an inclusive digital transformation by involving multiple stakeholders: public administrations, the private sector, civil society and academia.
Promote the twin green and digital transitions, harnessing digital solutions for a green future while mitigating sustainability risks.
Foster inclusive digital economies and societies in which all citizens – notably women and young people – have equal opportunities to participate in the digital world. The human-centric approach puts people at the heart of the digital transformation – driven by people’s needs, fundamental rights and intersectional challenges to closing digital divides.
Safeguard data privacy, ethics and protection in the context of individuals’ rights, digital economies and institutions.
Supporting Africa’s digital transformation
As the D4D Hub’s first operational project, the AU-EU D4D Hub supports African institutions to lay grounds for an inclusive and sustainable digital transformation. The project works with African governments and regional organisations to advance digital cooperation with European partners.
