D4D Hub at the Transform Africa Summit
26.04.2023 — 28.04.2023
Connect, innovate, and transform
The Transform Africa Summit (TAS) is Africa’s leading annual forum bringing together global and regional leaders from government, business, and international organisations to collaborate on new ways of shaping, accelerating, and sustaining Africa’s digital revolution.
Following five successful editions, the sixth TAS took place at Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe.
Organised by Smart Africa under the theme “Connect, innovate, and transform”, TAS aimed to enable its Member States to become more competitive, agile, open, and innovative smart economies. It was an opportunity for meaningful engagements on how governments can attract large-scale investments and enable fast growth and exports as well as for the private sector to thrive in an innovation and ICT-driven entrepreneurship ecosystem, hence transforming African nations into smart societies.
The D4D Hub joined TAS 2023 with the objective of presenting Team Europe’s value proposition as a trusted partner for Africa to jointly work towards a human-centric digital transformation.
Global Gateway: Building trusted connectivity between Africa and Europe
As part of TAS’ programme, the AU-EU D4D Hub project facilitated a dialogue on how the EU Global Gateway can support African partners to advance sustainable and trusted connectivity. Its goal was to foster a conversation between African and European stakeholders on the opportunities that the Global Gateway offers for the Africa-Europe digital partnership.
Panellists presented how the EU, its Member States, and European financial institutions can finance sustainable and resilient digital infrastructure. They also discussed Africa’s needs and priorities, identifying opportunity areas where Team Europe can best add value.
Particular focus was given to digital inclusion, gathering concrete recommendations on how to ensure that everybody can benefit from the opportunities created by joint Africa-Europe initiatives under the Global Gateway.

Thank you for visiting our stand
TAS was also an opportunity for the D4D Hub to present its multi-stakeholder approach to human-centric digital transformation by fostering dialogues between different actors of the digital ecosystem. Many stakeholders visited our stand to learn more about our private sector, civil society and academia advisory groups and Team Europe’s digital cooperation with African partners.
Promoting youth participation in policymaking
The AU-EU D4D Hub sponsored a small group of youth representatives from across Africa to attend TAS 2023. The purpose of the activity was to support the participation of diverse voices in this important policymaking space and to bring youth perspectives into Africa-Europe cooperation priorities. The selected delegates also contributed to AU-EU D4D Hub communications efforts prior to, during, and after the event.
