Botswana has an ambitious agenda for digital transformation, public sector reforms and diversification of its economy. The country launched 120 e-services in 2022, and the ultimate goal is to offer a "one government-one citizen" platform where citizens can access all public services. As such, the Government of Botswana has expressed its interest in exchanging experiences with Estonia.

On 30-31 March 2023, Estonia held a high-level visit to Botswana led by H. E. Mrs Mariin Ratnik, Undersecretary for Economic and Development Affairs at the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In the framework of this visit, the Estonian ICT Cluster, as part of the AU-EU D4D Hub's activities, organized a workshop on e-governance. The objectives were :

  • Sharing knowledge and experiences on e-governance with the Botswana digital ecosystem, precisely with the authorities in charge of the digital transformation.
  • Gathering insights and input on the state of e-governance in the country to better tailor and support possible future collaboration projects.
